Troy, Ala. – Guard Desmond Williams has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Troy men's basketball team for the 2019-20 season, head coach Phil Cunningham announced on Friday morning.Â
Â
Williams, a 6'1 point guard from Montgomery, Ala., attends Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School where he is excelling on the court and academically, posting a 3.3 cumulative GPA.Â
Â
"We're thrilled to add Desmond to our program," Cunningham said. "We've made a pointed effort in the last two recruiting classes to upgrade our speed and athleticism, and Desmond certainly checks those boxes. He's all set to cap off a tremendous career for Coach Shines at Brew Tech this season, and I think that he is the best playmaker in the state. The icing on the cake for us is that Desmond has been a terrific student at a magnet school."
Â
In his junior campaign, Williams led Brew Tech to an Area Championship averaging 23 points, seven rebounds and three steals per game. This season, in Brew Tech's first game Williams posted a triple double in 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.Â
Â
In addition to being a star on Brew Tech's basketball team, Williams has made a name for himself in the AAU circuit as he has played with the Alabama Challenge and Team Carroll Premiere.Â
Â
The Troy men's basketball team will be back in action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when it welcomes Central Arkansas for its third game in the Barclays Center Classic.Â
