Basketball Releases Non-Conference Schedule

Troy, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball team has finalized the 2018-19 non-conference schedule featuring seven home contests, as announced by head coach Phil Cunningham on Tuesday morning.
"We decided to seriously challenge this team with the non-conference portion of our schedule, and I strongly believe we've done just that," Cunningham said. "The 'three games in six days' stretch of road games at St. Louis and Pittsburgh capped off with a home game against Southern Miss is a heckuva way to start the season as well. I'm also pleased that we're hosting seven non-conference home games at Trojan Arena this season."
The 12-game non-conference slate begins with a home bout against Fort Valley State on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. Following the season opener, Troy will play away games against St. Louis (Nov. 10) and Pittsburgh (Nov. 12) in the Barclays Center Classic. The Trojans will finish the Classic with home contests against Central Arkansas (Nov. 18) and North Alabama (Nov. 24).
Troy will play Southern Mississippi for the second consecutive year in between the Classic games on Nov. 15 at Trojan Arena and wraps up November action against Austin Peay on the 29th at Trojan Arena.
Troy will mainly be on the road in December with away contests against Florida State (Dec. 3), Western Kentucky (Dec. 16) and UAB (Dec. 21). The UAB game will mark the 10th battle between the two teams over the past 10 seasons.
The Trojans will host Carver College on Dec. 12 and complete non-conference action against Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Dec. 29 in Troy. The full non-conference schedule can be viewed below while the complete 2018-19 men's basketball schedule can be found at TroyTrojans.com.
"The strength of our non-conference schedule is definitely going to prepare us for another competitive Sun Belt slate," Cunningham said. "Florida State returns the bulk of a team that was one win away from the Final Four, St. Louis is picked 1-2 in every Atlantic Ten poll I've seen, we play 2 ACC road games, and we take on three of the top five pre-season picks in C-USA including a road game at league favorite WKU."
Troy returns three starters from last season in seniors BJ Miller, Alex Hicks and Jordon Varnado who earned All-Sun Belt Second Team honors. The Trojans added eight newcomers to join the returning starters and three letterwinners.
