TROY, Ala. – Troy will welcome in-state rival South Alabama to Trojan Arena for a Halloween Night showdown at 6 p.m. Wednesday; the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Â
The Trojans (10-15, 4-8) are currently sitting in fourth in the Sun Belt East Division and are looking to break a four-game skid over the past two weekends with a big win over the Jags (11-14, 5-7), who are just a game ahead in third.
Â
Over the weekend, Troy trekked its way into the Carolinas but was unable to bring home a victory against the top two teams in the division – Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State. The Trojans followed a disappointing performance Friday night in Conway with a much better showing in Boone Sunday afternoon.
Â
Cheyenne Hayes, who has paced the offense all season, broke out of a short slump with 17 kills, while juniors Savannah Moore and Belle Waldrop formed a brick wall at the net – tallying five and four total blocks respectively.
Â
Freshman Amara Anderson eclipsed the 1,000 assists mark with 40 in the weekend finale, becoming the first Troy player to reach the threshold since Alexandra Alexander in 2013. She is now just 110 assists shy of the school's all-time freshman record set by Megan Henderson in 2007.
Â
Like the Trojans, South Alabama was unsuccessful in their two-match trip last weekend. The Jags rank third in the league with a .224 hitting percentage on the season, led by Morgan Stalcup's .347 which ranks fifth among individuals.
