BOONE, N.C. – Troy won the opening set but fell in the following three at Appalachian State to wrap up a weekend road trip in the Carolinas Sunday afternoon.
Cheyenne Hayes got back on the right foot with 17 kills in the match, but it wasn't enough to propel the Trojans (10-15, 4-8) past the Sun Belt East Division-leading Mountaineers (17-7, 9-3). It marked Hayes' 20th match with double-digit kills this season, just a few games removed from an impressive 19-match streak of reaching the threshold.
The Trojan defense provided an early spark for the squad, with 61 digs and 11 total blocks – the second most blocks in a single game by Troy this season. Lacey Jeffcoat (18) and SaraGrace Wilson (11) paced the team in the dig category, while Savannah Moore (5) and Belle Waldrop (4) led the blocking charge.
App State won its fourth straight match behind Emma Longley's monster game of 18 kills and three solo blocks, while three other Mountaineers posted double-digit digs. With the loss, Troy dropped its fourth straight league match immediately after winning four straight before last weekend.
