KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. โ Nicole Lorup fired a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's final round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Turtle Point Golf Course, and Troy turned in the seventh-best team round among the field of 17 teams with a 6-over 294 to climb two spots into 10thplace.
ย
The Trojans finished with 38 birdies over the three rounds, the third most in the field, paced by Lorup's 12 and Bianca Lohbauerย nine. Troy finished near the top of the field with a 4.23 scoring average on the par 4 holes but struggled all week on the par 5s with a 5.30 average.
ย
"That many birdies tells you that you're hitting a lot of quality shots and hitting the ball around the hole," head coach Randy Keck said. "We have got to eliminate the big numbers that plagued us this week, and we've got to step on the gas on the par 5s and not play defensively. When you play defensively, you start to hit bad shots off the tee."
ย
Lorup started on No. 10 and made the turn at 1-over with three bogeys and a pair of birdies. After playing the first three holes even on the back, the true freshman turned it on with three birdies over the final six holes for a 33 on the back of the course and her third round under par this season to finished tied for 17th.
ย
"Nicole played well again, I was impressed by Anna Claire (Little) the first two days and we had some decent individual performances," Keck said. "We have to find a way to play better in all three rounds. I was excited that we played well today, but we have to put three rounds together."
ย
Lohbauer, who tied for 40thย place, turned in five birdies in the third round and played clean with the exception of a rough start that found her 5-over after two holes. The Troy senior battled back to make the turn at 3-over and clawed her way to a 1-over 73 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 5.
ย
Sarah Harrison added a pair of birdies in Tuesday's final round to shoot 4-over and finish tied for 31stย place while Lindsey Harrison turned in her best round of the week with a 3-over 75 to land her tied for 70th. Little tied for 77thย place following a final round 11-over.
No. 35 College of Charleston led wire-to-wire and won by 11 shots over No. 34 Campbell while Kansas finished three shots back of the Camels in third.
Troy will compete one more time in the fall before breaking for the winter as the Trojans head to Macon, Ga., for the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship on Nov. 5-6.
