Baseball is Back. Troy Set to Begin Fall Practice

TROY, Ala. – After nearly four months of offseason strength and conditioning work, the Troy baseball team will officially begin its preparation for the 2019 campaign with the start of fall intrasquad scrimmages Friday.
The Trojans will play 19 games amongst themselves, culminated by the best-of-three Fall World Series November 11, 13 and 15.
Troy will take the field for the first time since its run to the NCAA Athens Regional at the beginning of June. The squad is responsible for breaking numerous school records, including almost doubling the previous triples record and tying for the most games played – the 42 wins are tied for the sixth most by any team in school history.
The biggest challenge for the 2019 team will be replacing four all-conference players in the lineup – Joey Denison, Matt Sanders, Brandon Lockridge and Andrew Crane. Denison was selected as the 2018 Sun Belt Player of the Year (and an All-American), Sanders was the NCAA Statistical Champion in runs per game, Lockridge won the Rawling's Gold Glove and Crane finished with the lowest career ERA in Sun Belt history.
Following the season, Sanders and Lockridge were both drafted in the 2018 MLB First Year Player Draft while Crane and Denison graduated. First Team All-Sun Belt third baseman Drew Frederic and Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Rigsby Mosley highlight the returning letter winners for Troy in 2019.
Some of the newest additions to the club include Collegiate Baseball High School All-Americans Logan Cerny and Bay Witcher – the 2018 signing class was ranked in the top 100 nationally by Perfect Game. Along with the new class, Troy added former North Alabama pitching coach Matt Hancock in July to fill the same role on its coaching staff.
