Troy Struggles in Loss at UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington pushed all the right buttons in 76-57 win over Troy on Thursday in College Park Center.
Troy (7-7, 2-1 Sun Belt) struggled in all areas from the start making just 4 of its first 18 shots (22.2 percent) from the field and turning the ball over 12 times in the first half leading to 19 UTA points. The Trojans shot 29 percent (21-73) for the game and were forced into 22 turnovers.
The Mavericks (8-6, 2-1) got a season-best performance from Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year Rebekah VanDijk. The senior center dominated the post finishing with 25 points and 14 rebounds. In total, UTA scored 36 points in the paint including 25 second chance points off 31 offensive rebounds.
UTA built a 20-point lead in the first half and expanded it out to 29 in the third quarter. The Trojans could only come as close as 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Amanda Mendoza was one of the few bright spots for the Trojan offense scoring 14 points and converting all six of her free throw attempts on the night. Jasmine Robinson added 14 points while Sky'Lynn Holmes led the team on the boards with eight rebounds.
The loss was just the third to UTA in nine regular season meetings between the schools.

Troy travels to San Marcos for the second and final game of the team's Texas road swing as the Trojans face off against Texas State at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
