TROY, Alabama- Claire Graves and Rachel Rigney Brown each threw complete games and had dominating performances in the circle to lead the Trojans to an 8-3 win in game one and a 5-0 shutout in game two of the league series.
Game one: Troy 8, Appalachian State 3
A huge fourth inning lifted the Trojans over the Mountaineers 8-3 in game one. Appalachian State took a 3-0 lead after scoring one run in the top of the second inning off of an RBI double from Cara Parker and added two more runs in the fourth inning.
Erica Davis got the rally going as she led off with a single. Madeline Porter got on base with an Appalachian State error and put two runners on for Jordan Gray. Gray put another base hit on the board and a bases loaded walk to Carli Kayler brought in Troy's first run of the game. Logan Calhoun followed with an RBI single to cut Appalachian State's lead to one. A sacrifice fly from Kaylee Hussey brought in another Troy run to tie the game at 3-3.
The Trojans didn't stop there. With one out, senior Becca Hartley smashed her 11th double of the year and her 40th RBI of the year to give the Trojans the lead. Katie Webb kept the hitting streak alive with a two-RBI single, followed by a Stephanie Snyder RBI double, also her 11th of the season. After seven runs off of seven hits, the Mountaineers were able to get the final to outs of the inning.
The Trojans added one more run in the bottom of the sixth as another Snyder hit scored Hartley from third.
Hartley, Snyder and Calhoun each had two hits in game one, and four other Trojans contributed with one of Troy's 10 hits.
Claire Graves earned her 20th start and the circle, and pitched a complete game. She only allowed only walked three batters and delivered two strikeouts on the day to earn the win and move to 8-8 on the season.
Game two: Troy 5, Appalachian State 0
With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Rigney Brown was working a perfect game. A late hit from the Mountaineers put a runner on to break up her historic outing, but the Trojans were able to shut out Appalachian State in the final game of the day.
The Trojan defense put zeroes across the board for the Mountaineers until Jenny Dodd hit a late blooper ball that fell just fair on the right side.
Hartley put Troy's first run up as she crushed her 16th home run of the season, a solo shot, to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead through three innings.
An RBI single from Porter scored Davis in the bottom of the fourth. Hussey followed with a double to left center to bring porter home. Hartley earned another RBI as she singled to second base in the sixth, bringing freshman Grace Mirly across the plate. Cassidy McDilda continued her four-game hit streak as she entered the game as a pinch hitter and brought in Troy's fifth run with a shot to left field.
Rigney Brown picked up a much deserved seventh win of the season. She did not allow a runner to get on base until the top of the seventh inning.
