Box Score
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – With a Sun Belt Championship berth on the line, Troy fought hard to rally against No. 37 Georgia State but came up short 4-1 to conclude the season on Saturday afternoon.
It wasn't the start the Trojans (14-11) hoped for to begin the day as Andre Baldo and Hassan Ndayishimiye and Mustapha Belcora and Pablo Moreno both fell 6-3 in doubles to give the point to the Panthers.
Singles play swung the momentum back to Troy's side as four of six of the first sets in singles play went to the Trojans, which put Troy on pace for the comeback win. Of those four, only Amer Bedwan was able to walk away with a victory as he notched a 6-4, 6-2 win over Felipe Jaworski.
Mustapha Belcora, after racing out to a 6-2 win in the first set, proceeded to drop the next two sets 6-1 to Quentin Couland. Andy Lau, another first set winner, couldn't continue his play as he fell 6-3, 6-0 in his final two sets.
The last effort to salvage the match came down to Ndayishimiye, who played in the one position against Zackery Kennedy. The senior pushed his match to the brink but was narrowly defeated 7-5 in straight sets.
NOTEWORTHY
• Amer Bedwan concluded his freshman season as the most dominant singles player on the roster with a 23-9 record on the season.
