No. 64 Men’s Golf Downs Two Top-35 Opponents in Match Play

ATHENS, Georgia – The No. 64 Troy men's golf team had a solid day on the course Friday as the Trojans picked up match play victories over No. 24 Georgia and No. 35 North Florida at the University of Georgia Golf Course; Troy and Georgia also tied on the day.
The two victories come at a key time in the season as Troy heads to the Sun Belt Championship on April 23-25 to defend its conference title. The winner of the league title receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals, while the cutoff for an at-large position fell to the 64th-ranked team in the country last year.
Troy opened the day with a 3-0-2 victory over Georgia in the morning wave. Jared Bettcher picked up a dominating 5-and-4 victory to capture the first point of the match, while Jake Tiffin won three straight holes at the end of his match to claim a 2-and-1 victory. Like he did at the Sun Belt Championship last year, Luke Moser clinched the match for Troy with a 1-up victory.
Tiffin, a true freshman, was subbed into Troy's lineup at the last minute after Cam Norman was a late scratch. In addition to his morning victory, Tiffin also won his two matches in the afternoon wave after playing just nine rounds all season entering Friday's action.
Clayton Vannoy, who halved his morning match, earned a pair of victories in the afternoon wave – as Troy picked up a 3-2 win over North Florida and a 2-2-1 tie with Georgia. Bettcher won his match against North Florida and halved his second match with the Bulldogs.

We were dealt a hand of adversity right before our match in the morning and our guys responded in a big way, especially Jake Tiffin who won all three of his matches despite not knowing he was going to play until right before the first match started.
