TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team has returned to postseason play for the first time since 2014 with a matchup against Appalachian State in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The game will have a live video stream on ESPN3.com and a live radio call on TroyTrojans.com with Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller.
Â
Wednesday's game will be an opportunity for the Trojans (18-14, 10-8) to continue the hot streak that saw victories in six of the final eight games to close out the regular season.
Â
On Saturday, Troy finished off the home slate with a comeback 57-54 win against Little Rock on senior day. Daniel Peace—playing for the final time in Trojan Arena—sealed the win with a career-high four steals, two of which were in the final minute.
Â
The Trojans and Mountaineers (9-20, 4-14) have had a lopsided history with the 6-1 advantage to Appalachian State, but Troy picked up the lone victory earlier this season. Troy topped Appalachian State 76-66 on Feb. 20 in Trojan Arena in a game in which Jordon Varnado had 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Â
Varnado has been the key to Troy's hot February as he leads Troy in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. The sophomore was named to the All-Sun Belt First team along with Wesley Person, who garnered All-Sun Belt Third team accolades.
Â
Appalachian State lost four of five to end the regular season, but the win came in the final regular season game of the year 77-73 over Coastal Carolina. This will be the first ever appearance in the Sun Belt tournament for the Mountaineers.
FOR THE FANS
Fulton Alley (600 Fulton St., New Orleans, LA) will serve as headquarters for all Troy games (men's and women's). Join other Trojan fans three hours before every game for a great time, there will be a free shuttle to Lakefront Arena for the games.
