Softball Set for First Conference Series Against Georgia Southern

TROY, Alabama- Troy (11-12) is set to close out its 11 game road swing with the first Sun Belt Conference match up of the season against Georgia Southern. The Trojans will travel to Statesboro, Ga. for a Saturday double header at 12 and 2 p.m., followed by a Sunday tilt at 11 a.m. CT.

The Trojans are coming off a mid week loss to SEC's Mississippi State. Troy fell 2-1 to the Bulldogs in a defensive clash. Mississippi State is averaging 4.5 runs on the season, but the Trojans held the Bulldogs to just two runs, both came in during the first inning. The defense was able to make the adjustments to hold Mississippi State, but Troy could only score one run off of six hits.

Sophomore Stephanie Snyder leads the squad at the plate with a .320 average. She is also the leader in doubles with six on the year. Troy, Ala., native Becca Hartley has a team-high six home runs and 16 RBIs. Hartley also leads the team with 10 stolen bases.

In the circle for the Trojans, senior Rachel Rigney Brown has earned five wins in nine games started and has recorded 30 strikeouts. Sophomore Claire Graves has posted a 3.21 ERA in 56.2 innings of work with 19 strikeouts. Peyton Glover came in as relief against Mississippi State and threw six innings and did not allow a run from the Bulldogs.

The Eagles are 10-9 on the season after going 4-1 on the weekend at the Eagle Classic where they defeated Eastern Kentucky, South Carolina State, Delaware State and Presbyterian, and fell to Marshall.

Leading the Eagles is senior Emily Snider who has posted a .339 batting average and has five home runs on the season. Sophomore pitcher Dixie Raley is 6-6 on the year with a 2.52 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 61 innings of work.

Player to Watch
Freshman Brooke Echols has started the last 13 games of the season in the outfield. She has a 244 average at the plate and has posted 10 hits on the season, including four doubles with two against Lipscomb. She is the only freshman with a home run on the year. In her 15 games in center or right field, Echols has recorded 28 put outs including several diving catches.

Troy leads the series with Georgia Southern 19-9. At Troy, the Trojans hold on to the advantage at 5-4, while in Statesboro Troy has a 11-3 hold over the Eagles. Troy also leads Georgia Southern 3-2 at neutral locations. At their last meeting in 2016, The Trojans won the series at home winning two of the three match ups.
