TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team looks to claim sole possession of second in the Sun Belt Conference standings as the team hits the road to face ULM on Thursday and UL Lafayette on Saturday. Troy and ULM are set to tip at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Â
The Trojans (15-6, 8-2 SBC) are coming off a 75-71 win over in-state rival South Alabama on Saturday. Troy swept the season series from the Jaguars after also winning the bout in Mobile in December. On Saturday, Jayla Chills hit a free throw line jumper with just under 50 seconds remaining to put the Trojans ahead for good. Kristen Emerson came off the bench in the waning moments to score four points and record four rebounds in the contest.
Â
A pair of wins coupled with a UT Arlington loss this week would push the team into private ownership of second place in the league with less than a month to play in the regular season.
Â
Averaging 83.5 points per game, Troy continues to lead the Sun Belt in scoring as it has in all five seasons of head coach Chanda Rigby's tenure. Playing at least 12 players in each game this season, the squad leads the conference in 15 team categories and is second in the nation in rebounds per game (49.6).
Â
ULM (5-16, 2-9) has dropped two straight and four of its last five games including a pair of games in the Peach State to Georgia State and Georgia Southern. The Warhawks are led by junior guard Alexis Collins with 12.4 points and 3.9 assists per game.
