Sun Belt Title Defense Begins Friday Against Georgia Southern

TROY, Ala. – Troy's Sun Belt Conference title defense begins on Friday as the Trojans welcome Georgia Southern to Trojan Arena at 7:15 p.m. to mark the beginning of the conference season.

The matchup marks the first Sun Belt game Troy (6-7, 0-0) has played in since beating Texas State 59-53 in the Sun Belt Championship on March 12 and the first matchup against Georgia Southern (9-4, 0-0) since upsetting the Eagles 90-70 in the quarterfinals of the championship.

Non-conference play saw Troy fall just a shade below .500 after finishing 6-7 capped off by an 89-67 victory over Milligan in Dothan, Ala. on Dec. 21. The Trojans' key victory in non-conference play was a 73-65 on the road against fellow conference champion East Tennessee State on Nov. 22.

It was an explosive 13 games for Wesley Person as he sits second in the conference at 21.5 points per game behind only Kevin Hervey of UTA. The senior has scored 20 points or more in his past eight games with three games of 27 points or more.

The Trojans also saw stellar play out of forward Alex Hicks who is averaging 10.7 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game in the absence of Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team member Jordon Varnado.

• Georgia Southern started the season 5-0 before going 4-4 down the stretch with a 79-59 loss at East Tennessee State.

• B.J. Miller has started the past two games as the junior guard is averaging a career-high 7.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game and a shooting percentage of 57.4 percent.

• Troy will then face Georgia State on Sunday for the first time since Troy's 74-63 win in the Sun Belt Championship quarterfinals.
