TROY, Alabama – Troy hits the highway for the first time in the 2017-18 campaign, albeit it's not a lengthy journey. The Trojans travel to face off against Alabama State on Thursday in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome at 7 p.m.

Troy (1-0) enters the contest after winning its season opener 89-62 against Stillman. Six Trojans scored in double figures including sophomore Kayla Robinson, who paced the squad with 17 points. Freshmen Janiah Sandifer (14) and Jasmine Sanders (10) joined junior Sky'Lynn Holmes in double-digits in their Trojan debuts.

Alabama State (1-1) fell to defending national champions South Carolina to start the year, but rebounded for an 81-61 victory over Savannah State on Monday. Amber Hunt and Arieatha Gipson enter the contest averaging a team-high 8.0 points per game. Tatyana Calhoun has led the rebounding charge with 15 in two games for the Hornets.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Alabama State enters the game after an 81-61 victory over Savannah State on Monday night. Junior center Tatyana Calhoun recorded her first double-double of the season, as the preseason All-SWAC selection scored 11 points and 13 rebounds after being held scoreless in the season-opener against fourth-ranked and defending national champion South Carolina.

Arieatha Gipson led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 13 points off the bench, while senior Shamyiah Smith added 12 points.

Amber Hunt and Gipson lead the Lady Hornets in scoring this season with eight points per game, while Smith is averaging seven points and five assists per game. Calhoun leads the team in rebounding at 7.5 per game.

NOTEWORTHY
• Troy has won six consecutive games against Alabama State, including three straight at the Acadome. The Trojans last loss to the Hornets came on Dec. 12, 2000.

• The Trojans have scored 80-plus points in 74 games under head coach Chanda Rigby. Troy has led the Sun Belt Conference in scoring the last five seasons.
