Troy Women Aim for 2-0 SBC Start on Thursday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team looks to start 2-0 in conference play for the first time in 15 seasons as it travels to take on Georgia State on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (CT).

The Trojans (8-4, 1-0 SBC) visit the GSU Sports Arena in Atlanta, Ga., riding a five-game winning streak against the Panthers and aiming to improve to 2-0 in league play for the first time since opening undefeated in the team's first two Atlantic Sun games of 2001-02.

Behind a 24-3 fourth quarter run and a double-double from Claresa Banks (10 points, 12 rebounds), Troy battled back to knock off South Alabama, 73-57, on Saturday. Ta'Kierra Gibbs, playing in just her second game of the season, hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final frame to help kick start the Trojan offense.

Georgia State hasn't defeated Troy since New Year's Day of 2014, a five-game streak that includes a pair of losses on the Panthers' home floor. During the winning run, Troy has averaged 96.2 points per game.

The Panthers (5-7, 1-0) knocked off in-state rival Georgia Southern, 58-54, on Saturday snapping a four-game winless streak. Tiffany Holston lead the way with her fourth double-double of the year with 15 points and 17 rebounds.
