Troy Volleyball Travels to Montgomery for Alabama State Tournament

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team will travel to Montgomery, Ala., for the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational, hosted by Alabama State.

The Trojans (3-4) open play with just one game on Friday against host Alabama State at 6 p.m. Troy will conclude the tournament on Saturday with two games. The first is against Chicago State at noon and the finale is against Savannah State at 5 p.m. All games will be played at Lockhart Gymnasium and admission is free.

THE COMPETITION
• Alabama State (1-6) has lost five straight after winning its opening game against North Carolina A&T in five sets. The final three matches have been against tough competition in Arizona, Pepperdine and SMU in the Wildcat Classic in Tucson, Ariz.

• Chicago State (0-6) is coming off a three-match loss at the Kansas Invitational against Kansas, Arkansas and Maryland. The Cougars won one set in the tournament and it came against Arkansas in the second game played.

• Savannah State (0-8) is coming off a three set loss to East Carolina in Savannah, Ga., on Sunday. Prior to that, the Tigers played in a tournament hosted by Georgia Southern and only won one set in the tournament and it came against the Eagles.

NOTEWORTHY
• The Trojans look to bounce back after dropping their final two matches in the Trojan Invitational last weekend. Troy won its home opening match against Southeastern Louisiana and opening tournament match against Southern. Both wins were in three sets.

• Troy leads its opponents in kills as the Trojans have 279 on the season and opponents have 249. The Trojans are also out-blocking their opponents with 45.0 total blocks compared to 35.0 total blocks.

• Senior Sara Landis and sophomore Jordyn Saulsberry are tied for the team lead in kills with 50. Saulsberry has 2.50 kills per set and Landis has 2.27 kills per set. Symone Shaw leads the team in that category with 2.56 kills per set.

• Reina Terry has been setting up kills for the Trojans left and right this year. She has 147 assists this season, which leads the team by over 100. Kiara Barrett is next in assists with 45 total assists.

• The defense has been held strong as three players have over 60 digs this year. Bethany Cullity leads the team with 65 digs and 2.71 per set. Avalon Nero and Alisha Hinrichs have 63 and 62 respectively.

• Blocks have also been a big component of Troy's defense. Led by seniors Leah Causey and Sara Landis, who have a combined 41 total blocks. Causey leads the team with 22 and Landis is second with 19. Redshirt freshman Logan Page is not far behind the two of them and has 17 total blocks.

• The Trojans are 30-0 combined against the three schools they will face in the tournament. Led in large part by Alabama State, where the Trojans are 28-0 all-time against the Hornets. Troy is 1-0 each all-time against Chicago State and Savannah State.
