Troy Volleyball Drops Two Matches at DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge

TROY, Alabama - The Troy volleyball team concluded play at the DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge in Johnson City, Tenn., and dropped two matches against Austin Peay and ETSU.
QUOTABLE
"I thought we competed well," Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "We found the things we really need to focus on this week in practice to get better for Tuesday and next weekend. I'm encouraged by the way they fought today and we can't wait to get back on the practice court on Monday."
GAME ONE (AUSTIN PEAY)
In the first match of the day the Trojans (1-2) lost 23-25 in the first set. Neither team led by more than three points in the set. The Governors took the second set 25-16 and scored seven of the last 10 points in the third set for a 27-25 victory.
TURNING POINT
Troy took a 23-20 lead in the third set, but Austin Peay rattled off seven of the last 10 points to clinch the match in three sets.
STAT OF THE MATCH
The Trojans followed up Friday's match of 10 total blocks with nine in today's first match against the Governors.
GAME TWO (ETSU)
The Trojans lost the second match of the day against ETSU in three sets, but only lost the first two sets by a combined five points, 22-25 in the first and 25-27 in the second. Troy tied the third set at 15, but ETSU scored eight straight en route to a 25-17 victory.
TURNING POINT
After falling behind 23-16 in the second set, Troy scored eight points including five in a row and came back to tie it at 24. However, the Buccaneers scored the final two points to win the second set.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Kiara Barrett picked up a career-high 26 assists in the match along with 10 digs, for her first career double-double.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will return to Trojan Arena for the home opener of the 2016 season on Tuesday night against Southeastern Louisiana. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
