Joey Denison Earns Summer League Player of the Week Honors

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Troy outfielder Joey Denison earned the New England Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Denison, who plays for the Upper Valley Nighthawks, picked up the franchises first-ever NECBL Player of the Week award.

"Joey had a strong second half this spring and looks like he's carried it over to the summer," Mark Smartt said. "He's a really good hitter and we are excited about his senior season in 2017."

The Troy, Ala., native led the league with a .560 batting average and 14 hits, including five doubles, one triple and eight RBIs for the week. He also ranked second in runs scored with seven and home runs with two. He also led the league with a 1.687 OPS.

Denison ranks second in the league's batting title race with a .390 average on the summer. His 11 RBIs also rank tied for third in the league, while his 23 total hits are tops in the New England League. Denison also had at least one hit in all of the six games he played in last week, finishing with multiple hits on four occasions, including a 5-for-5, four-RBI game.

Denison led the Trojans in many statistical categories for the 2016 season including batting average (.322), slugging percentage (.495), runs scored (42), hits (69), RBIs (37) and total bases (106).
