Winters Walks Off in Troy’s First Game of 2016 Conference Tournament

MOBILE, Alabama – Amanda Winters sent an RBI double to left center in the bottom of the ninth inning to clinch the 3-2 walk-off win over UT Arlington on Wednesday at Jaguar Field.
Troy (31-23, 12-13 Sun Belt) struck first and scored a run in the third inning when Becca Hartley hammered a solo-shot over the left field wall to make the score 1-0.
Another single run was added in the fifth inning when Meg Willis singled through the left side and brought Hartley around for the score and the final Trojan run came in the ninth inning off the bat of Winters.
Hannah Day and Ashley Rainey both had multi-hit games. Rainey went 2-for-4 and Day was perfect in the game and went 4-for-4.
UT Arlington (29-20, 8-17 Sun Belt) added a single run in the top of the fourth to tie the game 1-1 when Laura Curry scored on a groundout to shortstop. The Maverick's second run came in the top of the fifth after Kacey Everett scored on a groundout to first.
Ashley Rainey (16-13) picked up the win in the circle for the Trojans. She pitched all nine innings and only gave up two runs and recorded four strikeouts. Samantha Clakley (18-14) suffered the loss for the Mavericks. She tossed a complete game, gave up three runs on 12 hits and racked up four strikeouts.
The Trojans are back in action at 5:30 p.m. to face off with Texas State in the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
