OXFORD, Mississippi – Paced by Fátima Fernández Cano's fifth individual title and two others in the top 10, the Troy women's golf team won for the third time this season with a 17-stroke victory at the Rebel Intercollegiate, which concluded Sunday at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Cano entered the day four shots off the pace, but fired a season-low 6-under 66 to surge into the lead and claim individual medalist honors by three shots over Murray State's Moa Foulke. Her round of 6-under tied for the lowest under par in school history, while her 66 total ranks as the second lowest round in school history; behind only her 65 on a par-71 course last season.
She made the turn at 2-under with three birdies and a bogey on the front nine before turning on the jets on the back nine. After a pair of pars, Cano made four straight birdies to move to 6-under after 15 holes. She now has an average finish of 5.1 in her eight tournaments this year.
Troy built a 20-shot lead heading into Sunday's final round after shooting a 6-under 282 in Saturday's second round, it was 17 shots better than anyone else in the field. The Trojans' 4-over 292 on Sunday was the third-best round of the day and allowed them to coast to the victory.
Freshman Bianca Lohbauer continued her impressive spring campaign as she tied for third place with an even-par 216 over the course of the three rounds. She fired a round of even par in Sunday's final round as she finished with three birdies over her final five holes.
Gabi Oubre' gave the Trojans three individuals in the top 10 as she tied for ninth place for her third top-10 finish of the season. She fired an 8-over 80 in the final round, but her strong 3-under in the first two rounds carried her to the finish.
Lindsey Harrison, Becca Horner and Kalyn Hudson all carded a 5-over 77 in the final round to close out the Rebel Intercollegiate – Harrison tied for 31st place, Horner tied for 61st and Hudson finished 82nd.
Host Ole Miss finished second 17 shots behind Troy, while Fresno State and Harvard tied for third place 24 shots off the pace.
The Trojans will take a two-week break before heading to Miramar Beach, Fla., for the Sun Belt Conference Championship. Troy heads to the Raven Golf Course as the the two-time defending Sun Belt Conference Champions.
