MIRAMAR BEACH, Florida – Paced by three individuals in the top six, the Troy women's golf team is in first place following Sunday's opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Raven Golf Course.
Freshman Bianca Lohbauer fired a 2-over 73 with a birdie and three bogeys and sits tied for first place with Georgia State's Jemima Gregson. She birdied the par-3 No. 4, which was the second-toughest hole of the day as the field played the 148-yard hole at +0.76.
Troy fired a 16-over 300 as a team on the par-71, 6,171-yard course. The Trojans, who have won the last two Sun Belt Conference titles, hold a one-shot lead over Texas State, while Little Rock is nine shots back in third. Troy has now been on the top line of the team leaderboard at the Sun Belt Championship for six straight rounds dating back to the opening round of the 2014 Championship.
Juniors Gabi Oubre' and Becca Horner are two shots back of Lohbauer in a tie for sixth place. Horner, who has placed in the top 10 in her previous two Sun Belt Championship appearances, carded three birdies on the day – second most in the field – and was just 2-over heading into the final two holes. However, a double-bogey on No. 17 pushed her to 4-over on the day.
Oubre' finished her round with birdies on No. 3 and No. 17, both par-5 holes, around four bogeys and a double-bogey. Freshman Lindsey Harrison carded a 6-over 77 to finish the day tied for 16th place, while Fátima Fernández Cano struggled to a 7-over 78, marking the first time this season that her score did not count towards the team card; she is tied for 19th place.
Troy, Texas State and Little Rock will be paired together again for Monday's second round, which is scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m.
