Women’s Golf Pulls Away on Day Two of Rebel Intercollegiate
4/2/2016 5:15:00 PM | Golf (W)
OXFORD, Mississippi – The Troy women's golf team has built a 20-stroke lead through two rounds of the Rebel Intercollegiate after the Trojans shot a 6-under 282 on Saturday at the Ole Miss Golf Club.
Three Trojans rank in the top five on the individual leaderboard as Gabi Oubre' is second, Fátima Fernández Cano is tied for third and Bianca Lohbauer is in fifth place. Troy's round of 282 is the second lowest in school history behind only the 276 the Trojans shot on March 21 at the Samford Intercollegiate.
Troy was in a class of its own on Saturday as the Trojans' round was 17 shots better than anyone else in the field. Troy will carry a 20-shot lead over East Tennessee State into Sunday's final round, while Harvard finds itself 22 shots back in third place and host Ole Miss is 23 shots off the pace in fourth.
Oubre', Cano and Lohbauer all shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday with a combined 11 birdies and an eagle. Lohbauer led the birdie parade with five on the day, including three on the front nine. Cano had a balanced round with two birdies and a bogey on each side of the turn, while Oubre' had an eventful front nine with two birdies and an eagle. Her eagle came on the par-4 No. 6 as she holed out from 167 yards away with a six iron.
Lindsey Harrison also turned in a solid day for the Trojans as she traded a pair of birdies for a pair of bogeys to finish the day even par and tied for 22nd place overall. Becca Horner shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 58th place, while Kalyn Hudson, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 84th place after carding an 81 on Saturday.
The Trojans will look to wrap up their third team title of the year on Sunday at 9 a.m. as teams will take the course for a shotgun start.
