Troy Opens Spring Break Trip with Win

FT. WALTON BEACH, Florida – The Troy women's tennis team open a four-match spring break trip with a 5-2 win over Mercer at the Ft. Walton Beach Tennis Center on Sunday.

Troy (7-3) has now won four of its last five matches ahead of Monday's Sun Belt opener against ULM.

On Sunday against Mercer (6-7), Troy opened the match with two easy doubles wins as the Trojans' No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams both won by 6-2 scores.

It was then the bottom of Troy's singles lineup that played well to clinch the match. Efriliya Herlina saw her opponent, Katie Sidor, retire at No. 4 singles to give Troy a 2-0 lead.

Nancy Karaky then cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Haley Powell. That set the stage for Sanae Ohta to clinch the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Grace Korta at No. 3 singles.

Mercer grabbed its first point with a win at No. 2 before Luisa Ferrauti closed out Troy's scoring with a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 6 over Roxy Bartz. The Bears won in three sets at No. 1 to finish the match.

Troy now remains in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., to take on ULM on Monday. The Warhawks were ranked in the nation's top 75 just two weeks ago and sport an 8-0 record entering Monday's match.
