Troy Women’s Tennis Knocks Off Undefeated ULM

FT. WALTON BEACH, Florida – The Troy women's tennis team picked up a big win on Monday, beating previously undefeated ULM, 4-3, at the Ft. Walton Beach Tennis Center. The match was the Sun Belt opener for each team.

Troy (8-3, 1-0) has now won three straight matches, and four of its last five, with the win over a ULM (8-1, 0-1) team that was in the ITA National Rankings just two weeks ago.

The Trojans actually started Monday's match in a hole as ULM won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the opening point, but the Trojans played well in singles action to grab the win.

Sanae Ohta quickly won her fifth straight match and evened the score with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tiffany Mylonas at No. 3 singles. ULM then grabbed a straight-set win at No. 6 to pull back ahead, but Efriliya Herlina tied the score again with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Jiayuan Xue would give Troy its first lead, 3-2, with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Pauline Van Herck at No. 1 singles. ULM pulled even with a win at No. 2, setting the stage for Nancy Karaky and Troy.

The sophomore lost the first set of her match, but after winning a close second set, she dominated the third to grab the win for Troy. Karaky knocked off Ioana Popescu at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Troy will next be in action on Friday when the Trojans travel to Tampa to take on South Florida.
