Red-Hot Women's Golf Heads to Henssler Financial Intercollegiate

TROY, Alabama – Coming off the best tournament in school history, the Troy women's golf team looks to stay hot at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State. Play opens at the Pinetree Country Club with 36 holes on Monday and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.

Troy shot a school record 870 to win the Samford Intercollegiate by 31 strokes last week; the Trojans' final score was the best in school history by 21 shots on a par-72 course. Additionally, Troy set the record for the lowest round in school history after firing a 12-under par 276 in the second round.

The Trojans have moved into the top-100 in the country in the latest Golfstat rankings as they checked in at No. 99 in the most recent release. Troy will have a chance to move up even more with a good finish as the 12-team field includes eight other teams ranked in the top 100 – No. 26 Texas Tech, No. 34 Augusta, No. 53 Middle Tennessee, No. 60 Chattanooga, No. 63 Illinois, No. 74 Old Dominion, No. 87 South Florida and No. 89 East Tennessee State.

Leading the way for the Trojans is junior Fátima Fernández Cano, who has established herself as one of the nation's top golfers this year. She enters the Henssler Intercollegiate tied for 11th nationally with a 71.76 stroke average, while her -0.12 score vs. par is tied for ninth and her 3.98 par 4 scoring is second best in the country.

Cano won the Samford Intercollegiate – her third win of the season – after breaking her own school record with an 8-under 208. She fired a pair of rounds of 68 to open the event and shot even par in the final round to win by eight shots. Eight of Cano's 17 rounds this season have been under par and four of her rounds have been in the 60s.

Gabi Oubre' and Bianca Lohbauer joined Cano at the top of the leaderboard at Samford after finishing third and fourth respectively. Oubre' finished strong as she played the final two rounds 5-under par to shoot 2-over for the tournament, which included a 4-under 68 in the second round. Lohbauer fired the lowest round of the year by a Trojan with a 5-under 67 in the second round around a 76 in the first and third rounds to shoot 3-over.

Lindsey Harrison also finished strong at the Samford Intercollegiate with rounds of 73 and 74 to close out the event which propelled her into a tie for 19th place. Harrison's spring stroke average is more three shots better than what she posted in the fall and has dropped her average to 78.64 for the year.

Becca Horner will round out the team lineup for the Trojans after finishing 28th at the Samford Intercollegiate. Antonia Poate earned her way into the field as an individual after tying for 14th place at Samford. She fired rounds of 74 and 72 to close out the tournament and finished with a 13-over 229.

Teams will take the course at 8:15 a.m. (CDT) for a shotgun start.
