Women’s Golf Heads to Augusta Invitational; Cano Ranked 34th Amateur in the World

TROY, Alabama – Led by the world's 34th-ranked amateur player, the Troy women's golf team heads to the 3M Augusta Invitational this weekend at the Forest Hills Golf Club. Play opens with 18 holes on Friday and continues through Sunday.
Junior Fátima Fernández Cano has a pair of wins and a second-place finish in Troy's four tournaments this season and currently slots in at No. 34 in the latest World Golf Amateur Rankings, which is based on the results of over 750 amateur tournaments across the globe.
Cano enters the 3M Augusta Invitational tied for 22nd in the NCAA with a 72.00 stroke average and is fifth in the country with a 4.01 average on par-4 holes. She has played five of her 11 rounds this year under par, including two in the 60s.
Troy tied for eighth in the 41-team field at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic its last time out. Cano tied for first in the event as she tied her own school record with a 6-under 210 over the 54-hole event. She carded matching 3-under 69s in the first and third rounds around an even 72 in the second round.
Freshman Bianca Lohbauer opened with a pair of solid rounds as she was just 6-over heading into the final round before carding a 7-over to finish tied for 63rd place overall. Lohbauer is third on the team with a 77.85 stroke average over the first four tournaments of the season.
Gabi Oubre', who has the second-best average on the team at 77.00, will be looking to bounce back from a tough three days at Kiawah. Oubre' tied for 126th place in the event, but ended with a 5-over 77 to gain some momentum heading into this weekend's event.
Becca Horner enters the 3M Augusta Invitational with a 79.00 stroke average, while Lindsey Harrison carries a 79.63 average into the event. Kalyn Hudson and Bria Jansen will also be competing for the Trojans, but as individuals.
The field is strong as 11 of the 16 teams are ranked in the top 100 – No. 17 Florida State, No. 21 Texas A&M, No. 33 Furman, No. 35 East Carolina, No. 42 Augusta, No. 56 Illinois, No. 71 Coastal Carolina, No. 91 Memphis, No. 92 Virginia Tech, No. 93 East Tennessee State and No. 96 Kennesaw State. The rest of the field includes Eastern Michigan, Maryland, Memphis and Georgia Southern.
Troy will be in the second group off the No. 10 tees in Friday's round. Troy along with Mercer and one set of individuals will tee off beginning at 9:20 a.m. (CST).
