Troy Women’s Tennis Beats UAB to Close Homestand

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team closed a three-match homestand with a 5-2 win over in-state rival UAB on Saturday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (6-3) took the doubles point, despite dropping the first match at No. 1. Troy's duo of Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina won at No. 2, 6-4, to even the score. Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky then gutted out a 7-5 win at No. 3 to win the opening point.
Troy got two big straight set wins at the bottom of its singles lineup as Karaky and Luisa Ferrauti grabbed victories. Ferrauti was the first to win, beating Amy Lowther at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2. Karakay also won easily, beating Reghan Lynch, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.
The remaining four matches all went to three sets, but UAB (3-7) needed all four to take the win, but could only win two. Hannah Seizer clinched the match for Troy with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Elaine Simon at No. 2 singles.
After UAB won at No. 4, Ohta won at No. 3 over Catherine Ragoon, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, to give Troy its fifth point. The Blazers won in a super tiebreaker at No. 1 to make the final score 5-2.
Troy is next in action next Sunday and Monday, March 6 and 7, with neutral court matches against Mercer and ULM in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
