TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team returns home following a two-game road swing for its final two home games of the season. The Trojans open the final homestand against UL Lafayette on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Trojan Arena.
To help celebrate the final four home games of the season, Troy Athletics is offering a special ticket and food deal to its fans. The Final Four Four Pack, which will be available on both Thursday and Saturday, includes four general admission tickets and four $5 concession stand vouchers for just $40.
In addition to the Final Four Four Pack, the first 500 fans at Thursday's doubleheader against UL Lafayette will receive free Troy pom poms; the women open the doubleheader against the Ragin' Cajuns at 5:15 p.m.
Troy (9-18, 4-12 Sun Belt) saw its two-game winning streak snapped this past Saturday with a 78-74 loss at Appalachian State. Wesley Person scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Trojans and he was named the Sun Belt Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts. The sophomore guard also netted 28 points in Troy's victory at South Alabama last Tuesday and accounted for 43 percent of Troy's points on the week.
Person moved into 10th place among Troy all-time leading scorers during its Division I era with 886 career point, and he can climb to ninth with 12 points on Thursday. He is also just 11 3-pointers shy of tying Hunter Williams for Troy's Division I single-season record in the category.
Person is one of four Trojans who average double figures on the season. He leads the way scoring at a 17.6 per-game clip, while Jordon Varnado is averaging 13.6 per game, John Walton III nets 10.9 per game and Jeremy Hollimon adds 10.6 per game. Paced by Person and Varnado, Troy's underclassmen have accounted for 44 percent of the Trojans' scoring this season.
Walton ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with 7.9 rebounds per game and he enters the final four games of the regular season 55 rebounds shy of Troy's Division single-season record. Varnado is close behind with 6.9 rebounds per game in addition to ranking fifth in the Sun Belt with 1.2 blocks per game.
UL Lafayette (14-11, 10-6) comes to Troy having lost three in a row after rolling off nine straight wins. The Cajuns are led by Shawn Long's 18.8 points and 13.0 rebounds per game; he ranks third in the league in scoring and first in rebounding.
The Cajuns lead the Sun Belt and rank 25th nationally averaging 80.4 points per game, but scored just 64 and 57 points in recent losses to Little Rock and Texas State, respectively. ULL has struggled away from home this season with a 3-10 record on the road compared to its 11-1 mark in the Cajundome.
Following Thursday's game, Troy hosts ULM on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. on Senior Day. The Trojans will honor Walton and Jordan Howard prior to the game, which will be their final in a Troy uniform in Trojan Arena.
