2/12/2016 1:31:00 PM | Basketball (M)
TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team returns to action Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Georgia State in Trojan Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the Troy women.
All general admission tickets will be just $5 as Troy will be supporting breast cancer awareness. Both the Troy men's and women's teams are donating items for a silent auction where proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research. The first 300 fans through the doors for the doubleheader, which begins at 2 p.m., will receive a free Troy Athletics pink rally towel.
The game will be broadcast live on the Troy Sports Radio Network, with free coverage on TroyTrojans.com. Additionally, live video for the game will be available through Trojans All-Access by visiting TroyTrojans.com/Watch.
Despite double-doubles from John Walton III and Shawn Hopkins, Troy fell to Georgia Southern, 77-71, on Thursday night. Walton tied a game-high with 20 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds, while Hopkins dropped career highs with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Walton scored all 20 of his points and pulled down nine of his rebounds in the second half.
Troy (7-17, 2-11 Sun Belt) is led in scoring by sophomore Wesley Person's 16.8 points per game, who extended his streak with a 3-pointer to 53 straight games after hitting three on Thursday. Walton has been a monster down low over the past four games with 18.8 points and 9.8 rebounds over that stretch.
Georgia State (13-9, 6-7) enters Saturday's game having lost five of its last six games, including a 79-79 setback in overtime at South Alabama on Thursday. The Panthers are led offensively by Jeremy Hollowell's 14.3 points per game, while Kevin Ware is chipping in 13.0 points per game.
The Panthers held off a furious Trojan rally the first time the two clubs met back in early January. Georgia State escaped with a 72-68 victory despite being outscored by 15 points in the second half by Troy.
