TROY, Alabama – Off to a 4-1 start for the first time since the 2005-06 season, the Troy women's basketball team looks to improve that mark as it hosts Alabama State at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Trojans will wear pink uniforms in a collaborative fundraising effort with the Montgomery America Cancer Society.
Â
Troy enters the contest riding a four-game winning streak while the Hornets' (1-5) lone win of the season came against NAIA foe Mobile. Alabama State, the reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament champions, have dropped contests to quality opponents like North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Southern Miss.
Â
The game is just the second home contest of the season for the Trojans, the first since a 91-74 win over Belmont on Nov. 16. It is also part of a doubleheader with the men's team that will take on Alabama State following the women's contest.
Â
Averaging 87.4 points per game, Troy is 10th in the NCAA in scoring. The Hornets are averaging 52.8 points and shooting just 31 percent from the field. Britney Wright has paced the visitors with 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. For the Trojans, three players – Claresa Banks (10.6), La'Tia Fils-Aime' (10.2) and Jayla Chills (10.0) – are averaging double digit points. Chills leads the squad with 19 assists and is second with 12 steals on the year.
