JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The Troy women's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped as Jacksonville came away with a 77-70 victory at Historic Swisher Gym on Saturday.
The Trojans (5-2) trailed for the entire game and by as many as 16 points with 8:27 left in the game. However, Troy was able to pull within three points, 68-65, before the Dolphins scored nine of the last 14 points.
Jayla Chills led the Trojans with 15 points and added six rebounds, while La'Tia Fils-Aime' scored eight points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman Amber Rivers turned in a career-high 10 points in 13 minutes of action.
Jacksonville (8-2) forced 21 turnovers and got a career-high 27 points from guard Brandi Buie. The Dolphins held Troy, averaging eight 3-pointers a game, to just two fro beyond the arc. Sherranda Reddick entered the game leading the Atlantic Sun with 20.6 points per game but was slowed to just three field goals, but scored seven points from the free throw line to give her 15 for the game.
QUOTABLE
"We only took 63 shots in the game and we need to take 85 to play our style of basketball," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "Their 1-2-2 press slowed us in the first half. We just have to learn from our mistakes and bounce back against Nicholls State."
UP NEXT
The Trojans complete its two-game road swing with a trip to Nicholls State on Dec. 14. Troy defeated the Colonels 104-51 last season.
NOTEWORTHY
• Troy's six three point attempts were the fewest since attempting just six against UL Lafayette on Jan. 18, 2014.
• Sophomore forward Amahni Upshaw played for the first time this season. The Brantley, Ala., native had been sidelined with an injury for the first six games.
