DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – The Troy women's basketball team is set for a pair of games in the San Juan Shootout, which was relocated to Daytona Beach, Fla., on Thursday and Friday.
Â
The Trojans (2-1) take on Villanova on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. (CT) before squaring off with Loyola Chicago on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Troy has never met either team and will be looking to chalk up a win against a Big East school (Villanova) for the first time in school history.
"These are the kind of games where a win shows its advantages later in the season," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "A win over a team like Villanova is another rung in the ladder we are trying to climb."
Â
The Wildcats boast 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and 18, 20+ win seasons. Under head coach Harry Perretta (39th year), Villanova has advanced to the postseason in each of the last five seasons.
Â
Troy rolled in its last game, a 110-55 thumping of Thomas University in the Dothan Civic Center on Monday. La'Tia Fils-Aime' led the Trojans with a career-high 17 points while Dajia Williams recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. In total, four Trojans scored in double figures as ArJae' Saunders and Claresa Banks score 12 points each.
