Troy Travels To First Road Game Against UAB

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team will be on the road for the first time this season with a matchup at UAB on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Trojans have started 2-0 for the second consecutive season after pulling out a close 70-67 win at home against Eastern Illinois on Monday. Jordon Varnado led the way with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Hicks scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to also have a double-double.

While the Eastern Illinois game was decided by a Varnado jump shot that gave Troy a two-point lead with 3.4 seconds to go, the season opener was an offensive explosion as Troy raced past Toccoa Falls for a 135-76 win.

Varnado has led the way for Troy this year with 19.0 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and a shooting percentage of .696. Wesley Person is behind him at 13.0 points per game, but his streak of 61 consecutive games with a 3-pointer came to an end against the Panthers.

UAB started the season at home by winning 86-66 over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 11 before falling to Furman at home on Monday, 84-74. The Blazers are entering their second game without point guard Nick Norton, who suffered a torn ACL in the opener.

NOTEWORTHY
• Troy has never won against in-state foe UAB. The Blazers have won those matchups by an average of 15.6 points per game.

• The UAB game will be the first of four consecutive road games for Troy. Next week will be away games at Eastern Illinois on Monday, San Francisco on Nov. 23 and Hawai'i on Nov. 25.

• Through two games, Troy has a plus 23.5 rebounding margin against opponents. The Trojans have grabbed 101 rebounds to opponents 54.
