Troy To Host Eastern Illinois Monday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team will host Eastern Illinois in the second game of the season on Monday at 7 p.m. at Trojan Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The Trojans are coming off a high-scoring season opening 135-76 win over Toccoa Falls on Friday. It was the most points scored by Troy since Nov. 14, 2007.

In a quick paced game, Troy got everyone involved as seven different players scored in double-digits on the night, led by Shawn Hopkins with 19.
Â
While Hopkins started 10 games last season, multiple newcomers to the team made an impact in the opener. Juan Davis, Jr. came off the bench to score 17 and lead the team with seven rebounds.

Kevin Baker, a junior like Davis, Jr., showed off the potential to be another deep-threat option with Person as the guard knocked down 5-of-9 3-pointers to score 17 on the night.

Eastern Illinois is also coming off a season-opening win as the Panthers took down St. Francis (Ill.) 83-41.

• It will be the first matchup of a home-and-home series with the Panthers in the non-conference schedule. The Trojans will travel to Eastern Illinois the following Monday, Nov. 21.

• Troy was sharp all nigh against Toccoa Falls from the 3-point line as the 19 converted 3-pointers were the most in game since hitting 23 versus Arkansas State on March 3, 2006.

• Troy converted 51 field goals in the opener, which were the most field goals in a game since making 52 against Oakwood on Nov. 24, 2003.
• It marked the second time in the Phil Cunningham era and the first since the second game of his tenure that Troy broke 100 points.
