Troy Volleyball Drops Three Set Match to Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Georgia – The Troy volleyball team dropped a three set match to Georgia Southern on Saturday night at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Troy (6-13, 0-4 Sun Belt) fell behind 7-3 in the first set and got to within one point numerous times, with none bigger than a kill by Symone Shaw that put the set at 24-23. Georgia Southern (10-9, 3-1 Sun Belt) clinched the first set on the next serve with a kill by Katie Bange.
The second set saw the Trojans fall behind 18-10 and never gain a lead as the Eagles picked up a 25-18 win. Troy fell behind early in the third set 5-1, but cut it to as close as two points early in the set. Georgia Southern went on a 10-2 run and clinched the match with a 25-16 victory.
QUOTABLE
"I'm really proud of our team this weekend," Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "We competed well and we had a lot of young players step up. I'm looking forward to getting back in the gym and getting ready for this week's matches."
TURNING POINT
Georgia Southern outscored the Trojans 19-11 in the match for the first 10 points of each set. Troy fell behind 7-3 in the first set and 6-4 in the second and third set. The first set had five ties and two lead changes, the third had one tie and one lead change and the second had none.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Savannah Moore tied a career-high with six kills, after recording the career-high a night before against Georgia State. She picked up two blocks on the night, which also ties a career high.
NOTEWORTHY
• Symone Shaw led the team with seven kills and recorded a .130 hitting percentage.
• Savannah Moore had a .167 hitting percentage and picked up six kills.
• Reina Terry had a .244 assist percentage and had 21 assists on the night.
• Troy had five service aces as Alisha Hinrichs led the way with two of her own. Terry, Logan Page and Bethany Cullity had one service ace each.
