Troy (7-5, 2-1) is coming off of a 97-90 win at Georgia State on Thursday in a game where three different Trojans scored over 20 points. Ashley Beverly Kelley scored a game-high 26 points, with 22 in the second half, while Caitlyn Ramirez added 22 points. Freshman Amahni Upshaw had a career night with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
Upshaw had scored just one point in her previous five games combined, but replaced an injured Rachel Reid in the starting lineup and shot 9-of-12 on her way to a career high in points and rebounds, with the 16 boards being the most by a Sun Belt player this season.
A 12-of-12 showing at the free throw line aided Beverly Kelley's 26 points as the senior remained the Sun Belt's leading scorer at 19.7 points per game. She is also near the top of the league with 4.3 assists, which ranks third, and 3.3 steals, which ranks second, in the Sun Belt.
Ramirez's career-high 22 points bumped her scoring average into the Sun Belt top 10 at 13.0 per game. Her 59.0 field goal percentage ranks second in the league.
Troy's 97 points at Georgia State upped the Trojans' scoring average to 85.5 points per game, the fifth best scoring average in the NCAA. Troy is forcing 24.8 turnovers per game to rank fourth in the NCAA while its 12.7 steals are sixth in the nation.
Georgia Southern (4-8, 1-2) comes into Saturday on a high note after snapping a five-game losing streak with a 57-43 win over South Alabama on Thursday. The Eagles trailed 20-7 after the first quarter, but held South Alabama to 18 points and 6-of-39 shooting over the next 29 minutes.
Angel McGowan, the Eagles' leading scorer, posted 26 points, seven steals and six rebounds in the win.
Troy is 6-2 all-time against Georgia Southern with six straight wins. The Trojans won both of last season's games, including a 99-93 overtime win in Statesboro in which Beverly Kelley scored a career-high 46 points, the most in NCAA Division I last season and the most ever against Georgia Southern.
Following Saturday's game Troy will return home to host UT Arlington and Texas State on Thursday and next Saturday, respectively.
