GLENCOE, Alabama – The Troy women's golf team won for the fifth time in its past 14 tournaments after defending its title at the Chris Banister Golf Classic at the Silver Lakes Golf Course as play concluded Tuesday. Additionally, Troy junior Fátima Fernández Cano won the individual title at the event for the second consecutive season.
Cano posted the lowest round of the entire tournament as she shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to rally past Murray State's Moa Folke for the individual crown. Cano finished the tournament with a 1-over 217 for her third career collegiate title.
Troy, which was tied for fifth following the opening round, won by four shots over Morehead State, while Southern Miss was five shots off the pace in third place.
Junior Gabi Oubre provided the Trojans a second top-10 performer as she tied for ninth after closing out the tournament with a 6-over 78 on Tuesday, while Becca Horner was close behind in a tie for 12th place after carding a 7-over 79 in the final round.
Bianca Lohbauer closed out with an 8-over 80 to finish in a tie for 40th place and Lindsey Harrison shot a 9-over 81 and finished in a tie for 57th place. Playing as individuals, Kalyn Hudson tied for 51st, Bria Jansen placed 59th, Abby Parks finished 63rd and Antonia Poate tied for 64th.
The Trojans will look to make it two straight tournament victories when they head to the Blue Raider Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Oct. 19-20.
