Troy Uses Long Ball to Knock Off Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Georgia – Troy hit four home runs including three consecutive solo shots in the seventh inning en route to a 6-2 win over Kennesaw State at Stillwell Stadium on Wednesday.
Clinging to a 2-1 lead, Matt Sanders led off the seventh by launching a full-count fastball over the wall in left for his second home run of the season. Three pitches later, Reid Long hit a high drive to right for his team-high seventh homer this season. Logan Hill then deposited the first pitch he saw off the athletic complex in left for the Trojans third consecutive home run. Troy last hit three home runs in an inning on May 12, 2013 against Arkansas State.
Tripp Calhoun gave Troy (22-20) the lead in the second inning when he hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left. It was the first home run by a Troy catcher this season and the seventh time in eight games that the Trojans have scored first.
Cameron Sanders started the eighth with a double down the line in right. He would later score on a wild pitch, which was the only Troy run not produced by a home run.
Kennesaw State's Colin Bennett hit a solo shot in the bottom of the second to cut Troy's lead to 2-1. The Owls (22-19) added a run in the seventh on a Chris Erwin RBI single.
Senior Ben Tidwell (1-2) earned the win after tossing 4 2/3 innings allowing one run on four hits. Corey Childress pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief and struck out three.
The victory snapped an eight-game midweek skid by the Trojans. Troy improved to 20-1 on the season when leading after eight innings and 14-2 when scoring six or more runs. The Trojans pounded out 12 hits in the game, the fourth straight double-digit hit game for the team.
All nine Trojans reached base in the contest, while eight recorded hits. Cameron Sanders, TJ Binder, Peyton Fuller and Calhoun all finished with two hits each. Troy drew seven walks, the fourth game this year with seven or more walks.
Troy also improves its all-time record against Kennesaw State to 23-2 and 5-1 at Stillwell Stadium.
Texas State will visit Riddle-Pace Field over the weekend for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
