Â
Troy (18-15) got its first hit of the game in the third inning, when Khadija Neely lead off the inning with a single up the middle. The inning came to an end as Carli Kayler lined into a double play to the second baseman.
Â
Troy got two more hits with one out as Michelle Phelps singled through the left side and Neely doubled to center field and advanced Phelps to third, but the inning came to a close as Jaycee Affeldt struck out.
Â
Neely had two of Troy's five hits, as she went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
Â
"I thought we had a lot of quality at bats today but just hit at lot of hard balls right at people," said Troy's head coach Beth Mullins. "We have to do a better job defensively of finishing out innings and closing the door."
Â
Jaycee Affeldt (9-5) suffered the loss as she got her sixth start of the year in the circle, pitched six innings and allowed four earned runs on nine hits. Affeldt struck out four batters during her performance.
Â
Kennesaw State (20-10) scored its first run in the first inning when Megan Veringa singled down the left field line to score Taylor Denton. Later in the inning, Natalie Rhodes doubled to left field to score another run for the Owls. Denton made the score, 4-0, in the fifth with a two-run single to center field.
Â
Troy 1, Kennesaw State 3
Â
Ashley Rainey provided the Trojans (18-16) only offense in the game, as she broke up a no-hitter in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run to center field.
Â
Michelle Phelps provided the only other hit immediately after the Rainey home run in the seventh inning with a single to left field.
Â
Rainey (6-3) got the start and took the loss as she pitched six innings and only allowed three runs on four hits. Only one of Rainey's runs was earned and she struck out three.
Â
Kennesaw State scored all its runs on home runs. The first came in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Megan Veringa. The Owls added their last run on a solo home run by Emily Bishop to make the score, 3-0.
Â
All of Kennesaw State's runs on the night came with two outs.

Troy will return home to face UAB at the Troy Softball Complex in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 31, beginning at 4 p.m.Â
