Grant Bennett Named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week

TROY, Alabama – Troy junior pitcher Grant Bennett has been named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Bennett struck out 14 batters en route to a 6-1 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday. He took a perfect game into the eighth inning before giving up four hits in the final two frames. He didn't walk a batter as he became the first Trojan to fan 14 batters in a game since Mike Felix against New Orleans in 2006.
The Hazel Green, Alabama, native retired 21 straight Eagle batters and struck out the side twice heading into the eighth where he surrendered a lead off double. It was the first complete game for Troy since Tanner Hicks shutout South Alabama one year to the day before Bennett's outing.
Bennett is 3-1 on the season with a 2.10 ERA in 34.1 innings of work and leads the Sun Belt with 35 strikeouts. The junior allowed just one run in his first 19 innings of the season.
