Troy Softball Hosts Appalachian State

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team hosts Appalachian State for its first home Sun Belt Conference series of the season at the Troy Softball Complex. The two teams face each other in a doubleheader on Saturday, with game times set for 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. The series finale between the Trojans and Mountaineers is slated for noon on Sunday.

Troy (13-12, 0-3 Sun Belt) is coming off a tough, 2-0, loss at home on Tuesday night against No. 12 Auburn.

The Trojans are lead offensively by Hannah Day, who has a .347 batting average with three home runs and 17 RBIs. Day has a .583 slugging percentage which is tops on the team.

Jaycee Affeldt leads the Trojans pitching staff with a 3.34 ERA. She has appeared in 19 games this season and has 54 strikeouts, which ranks fifth in the Sun Belt.

Becca Hartley comes into the series riding a 25-game reached base streak, and is hitting .258, with three home runs and 15 RBIs. Hartley has a .413 on-base percentage and has drawn 13 walks, which leads the Trojans.

Appalachian State (8-10, 0-3 Sun Belt) comes in to the series after getting swept by ULM last weekend in its first Sun Belt matchup.

The Mountaineers are lead by Dani Heichen, who is batting .404 with two RBIs. Haley Stewart has four home runs for the Mountaineers, which is the most on the team, and has also knocked in 13 runs.

Troy leads the series between the two teams 4-2, with the Appalachian State winning the last game, 5-2 in Tallahassee, Fla., in 2013. At home, the Trojans lead the series, 2-0, with both their wins coming from a doubleheader in 2009.
