Troy Splits on Day Two of Troy Classic

TROY, Alabama - The Troy softball team split on Saturday night at the Troy Softball Complex, defeating Buffalo in five innings 11-0 in the first game before falling to Western Kentucky 4-0 in the nightcap.

Troy started red hot offensively as the Trojans pushed across four runs in the first inning. Khadija Neely singled to right field scoring Ashley Rainey and Hannah Day. Two more runs would cross on an error by Bulls shortstop Danielle Lallos.

The Trojans continued their hot hitting in the second inning highlighted by a Michelle Phelps grand slam over the left center field wall. Troy plated seven runs in the second frame alone.

Ashley Rainey (2-0) turned in a dominant performance pitching four innings and picking up her second win of the season. Rainey surrendered just two hits in the game.Â

Bobbi Langlois (0-2) took the loss for the Bulls giving up nine runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Buffalo (1-3) threatened in the first inning leaving runners at first in second.

Western Kentucky 4, Troy 0

The Trojans (2-2) fell victim to a no-hitter in the nightcap as Western Kentucky's Miranda Kramer struck out 19 batters, setting a career-high.

Sara Mock pitched well for Troy, tossing seven innings and giving up four runs on seven hits.

Four first-inning runs were all the Lady Toppers (2-1) needed offensively. WKU picked up seven hits in the contest.

Troy will face North Florida on Sunday at noon in the final day of the Troy Classic.
