Rigby Returns to Alma Mater as Troy Closes Non-Conference Play

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team closes non-conference play with its third road game in six days on Monday night at Southeastern Louisiana, head coach Chanda Rigby's alma mater. The Trojans and Lions will tip off at 7 p.m. at the University Center in Hammond, La.

Troy (4-4) is coming off of an 89-67 loss at UAB on Friday night. Troy started the game slow as UAB used an 18-0 run in the first quarter to take control. The Blazers shot 54 percent overall in the game while Troy shot just 35 percent.
Troy is now averaging 83.8 points per game, by far the best mark in the Sun Belt, and the 10th best scoring average in the NCAA. The Trojans' offense is at its best when the defense is forcing turnovers, something it does an average of 24.5 times per game, the fourth best mark in the NCAA. Troy has forced every opponent this season into at least 17 turnovers.
Individually, Ashley Beverly Kelley led Troy at UAB with 16 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, the lone quarter in which Troy outscored UAB. Beverly Kelley ranks third in the Sun Belt in scoring at 17.8 points per game.
She leads the league in steals at 3.0 per game and has 206 career steals, just five away from breaking the Troy career record of 210 which has stood since 1997.
Caitlyn Ramirez is Troy's second leading scorer at 12.1 points per game and ranks in the Sun Belt's top four in field goal, 3-point and free throw percentage, making her the only player in even the top 10 in all three categories.
Rigby, (Franklinton), associate head coach Jennifer Graf (Loranger), assistant coach Courtney Simmons (Baton Rouge) and director of operations Jasmine Green (New Orleans) are all playing near their hometowns in south Louisiana.
Southeastern Louisiana (1-8) is coming off of a home loss to Jackson State on Thursday. The Lions had previously won at Florida A&M for their lone win thus far this season. Transfer senior guard KaeLynn Boyd scored 22 points for the Lions against Jackson State, making her season debut after having to sit out during the fall semester.
The Lions average just 59.8 points per game and allow opponents to scored 87.7 per game, the second worst mark in the nation.
Troy defeated the Lions last season in Trojan Arena, 80-78, after trailing by 20 points with less than eight minutes to go in the game. However, Southeastern leads the all-time series, 3-2. Troy is 0-2 in Hammond, but hasn't played there since 2002.
Troy returns to Trojan Arena after Christmas when Arkansas State visits for the Sun Belt opener on Wednesday, Dec. 30. It will $1 Night at Trojan Arena with admission, hot dogs and soft drinks all costing just $1.
