Troy Women Return Home with Nation’s Top Offense

TROY, Alabama – The high-scoring Troy women's basketball team returns home on Tuesday to host Nicholls at Trojan Arena at 5:15 p.m. Troy, which is averaging 95.8 points per game, enters Tuesday's contest with the nation's top scoring offense and will be looking for its eighth straight win at Trojan Arena.

Troy (2-2) is coming off a 102-93 loss at Belmont on Sunday as the Bruins shot 54 percent overall and 50 percent (11-of-22) from 3-point range. The Bruins also attempted nearly three times as many free throws as Troy, going 23-of-28 to Troy's 7-of-10.
Ashley Beverly Kelley led Troy with 20 points, marking her 18th straight game scoring in double figures. The senior Mid-Major All-American leads the Sun Belt in scoring at 22.5 points per game, ranking 11th in the NCAA. Her 1,406 career points are the most among active Sun Belt players and the 10th most in Troy history, just 12 points shy of moving into ninth place.
Beverly Kelley is also second in the Sun Belt in assists (4.8/g) and assist-turnover ratio (3.2), ranking behind only her own teammate, Amanda Mendoza, in both categories.
Mendoza is coming off of a 19-point effort at Belmont on 5-of-6 shooting from deep. The sophomore also dished out six assists and averages 7.0 per game, ranking eighth in the NCAA. Mendoza's 4.7 assist-turnover ratio ranks eighth in the NCAA as she enters Tuesday with 28 assists and just six turnovers.
Troy features the NCAA's top scoring offense at 95.8 points per game, just ahead of second place UConn (95.0/g). Troy also ranks in the nation's top 10 in field goal percentage at 49.7 percent. The top three players in the Sun Belt in field goal percentage are all Trojans, led by Caitlyn Ramirez who is also third in the NCAA shooting 68.8 percent. She has scored in double figures in all four games and is averaging 14.0 points per game, good for sixth in the league.
Nicholls (2-3) comes to Troy after a 1-1 showing at the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Tournament, hosted by Southern Miss. The Colonels lost to Samford then rebounded to defeat Mississippi Valley State.
Hope Pawlowski led the Colonels with 15 points against Mississippi Valley and leads them on the season at 10.6 points per game. A 5-foot-7 junior guard, she also leads Nicholls in assists (3.2/g) and steals (3.2/g). The Colonels have started three freshmen in each of their first five games. Sammi Deakin-Sharpe and Cassidy Barrios are averaging 9.6 and 9.4 points per game to lead the Nicholls freshmen.
Troy and Nicholls are meeting for the first time in program history.
