Troy Women Look to Rebound, Extend Home Streak

TROY, Alabama – After a tough loss earlier this week, the Troy women's basketball team will look to rebound on Sunday as Fort Valley State visits Trojan Arena for a 2 p.m. contest. Troy will also be looking for its seventh consecutive home win.

Troy (1-1) is coming off of 73-69 loss at Samford on Tuesday. The Trojans led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs hit nine second-half 3-pointers and made 24-of-28 free throws to grab the narrow win.

Ashley Beverly Kelley led the Trojans with 33 points and also grabbed seven rebounds and three steals. The senior Preseason All-Sun Belt selection is third in the NCAA and first in the Sun Belt in scoring at 28.5 points per game over the season's first week.

She has scored in double figures in 16 straight games dating back to last season, and has now scored in double figures 66 times in her career, including 20-plus in 26 games. Her 1,373 career points are 10th in Troy history and the most among active Sun Belt players.

Caitlyn Ramirez and Ta'Kierra Gibbs have also each scored in double figures in each of Troy's first two games.   Ramirez is averaging 15.0 points, and is 12-of-18 from the field, ranking third in the Sun Belt in field goal percentage. Gibbs is averaging 10.0 point and is 4-of-7 from long range, ranking sixth in the Sun Belt in 3-point percentage.

As a team, Troy is averaging 86.0 points per game, once again leading the Sun Belt. The Trojans also lead the league in assists (18.0) and steals (13.5).

Fort Valley State (0-4) is an NCAA Division II team and a member of the SIAC, the same conference as Stillman, who Troy beat in its exhibition. Fort Valley State has lost its first four games this season, including a 61-49 home loss to NAIA member Southeastern University on Friday.Â

As they have all season, the Wildcats struggled from the floor as they shot just 24.4 percent (20-of-82) against Southeastern. The Wildcats are averaging just 46.0 points per game this season and shooting just 26.2 percent from the field.Â
