Sun Belt Conference release
TROY, Alabama – Senior designated hitter David Hall and sophomore pitcher Marc Skinner have been named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team as voted on by the league's coaches, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Â
"We're very proud of the accomplishments of both David and Marc, and proud of them for being recognized for their performance on the field," head coach Bobby Pierce said. "Both work very hard to maintain and improve their game. We are excited and looking forward to seeing them in the 2015 season."
Â
Hall led the Trojans offensively in 2014 with a .344 batting average, nine home runs and 48 RBI. For his efforts, he was named second team All-Sun Belt. Hall played in 55 of Troy's 57 games and finished sixth in the league in batting average, seventh in slugging percentage (.555), tied for eighth in home runs and ninth in doubles (17). He was named Sun Belt Player of the Week following an opening weekend performance that saw him reach base in his first 14 plate appearances.
Â
Skinner enters his sophomore campaign looking to build on a debut that earned him Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, Louisville Slugger All-American and NCBWA Freshman All-American honors. On Tuesday, D1Baseball.com named him 2015 Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Skinner earned second team All-Sun Belt honors in 2014 following a 6-1 effort on the mound and a league-best 1.52 ERA. His earned run average was also the fifth-best mark in Troy single-season history.
Â
As a team, Troy was picked to finish fifth in the conference. The Trojans ended last season tied for sixth.
Â
Troy opens the 2015 campaign on Feb. 13 at Riddle-Pace Field against Northwestern State.
