Troy Welcomes Appalachian State on Monday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team continues its homestand as it welcomes Sun Belt newcomer, Appalachian State to Trojan Arena on Monday night. The Trojans and Mountaineers will face off at 7:30 p.m.

Troy (7-8, 2-4) is coming off a huge upset win over then-Sun Belt leader, Georgia Southern. The Trojans snapped the Eagles' four-game win streak as their free throws down the stretch allowed Troy to outlast Georgia Southern, 75-71.

Kelton Ford led the Trojans with a career-night as he paced the Trojans with 26 points. Ford ended the night shooting 6-of-9 from downtown, doubling his season 3-point total. He also shot 6-of-7 from the charity stripe, including 3-of-4 in the final two minutes of play. Musa Abdul-Aleem sparked the Trojans with 23 points off the bench, as he shot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Kevin Thomas earned his eighth career double-double as he reeled in a game-high 12 boards and tallied 10 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the floor. Wesley Person chipped in seven for the Trojans, while dishing out a career-high six assists.

Appalachian State (5-10, 2-4) overcame an 11-point second-half deficit to pull out a 74-69 victory over Georgia State on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center. The Mountaineers trailed 56-45 with 10:55 to go in the ballgame but capped a 20-8 run with a three-pointer by Frank Eaves, their leading scorer, that gave the Mountaineers a 65-64 lead with 5:39 to go.

Frank Eaves and Tommy Spagnolo led the Mountaineers with 27 and 22 points, respectively. Eaves was hot from long range, as he sunk eight treys while Spagnolo went 12-of-13 from the free throw line. Chris Burgess also chipped in 14 points, thanks in large part to a 4-of-9 showing from beyond the arc.

The matchup will mark the third time the schools have faced each other. Troy and Appalachian State met during the Trojans' first two seasons, back in the 1950s. The Mountaineers hold a 2-0 advantage over the Trojans.
