Troy Track and Field Gears up for UNC Open

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Troy University track and field team heads to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this weekend to compete in the Art and Linda Maillet UNC Open on Saturday.

The Trojan women will face off against fourteen other colleges, beginning with the weight throw Saturday morning. The meet will commence at 10 a.m. and is expected to wrap up around 4 p.m.

Several Trojans are looking to exceed their performances from last weekend's Blazer Invitational.

Freshman Niata Alexander will compete in the 400-meter dash on Saturday. Last weekend she picked up a sixth place finish in the event.

Corina Cox will compete in the shot put along with Jaevyn Wortham and Allison Taylor. Cox placed ninth at the Blazer Invitational with a 13.68-meter throw. Wortham and Taylor will also compete in the weight throw.

Troy's women will have two teams competing in the 4x400 relay. The team of Alexander, Alexus Cobbs, Paige McMillian, and Dallas Worthy placed ninth in last week's meet. Aleeah Stigarll, Sydney Wright, Naomi Sheppard and Cameia Alexander will compose the second group.
