Former Trojan Star Shane McCain Earns First Professional Win

TROY, Ala. – Former Troy pitcher Shane McCain earned his first victory as a professional on Thursday as his Spokane Indians defeated the Boise Hawks, 12-5.

McCain pitched 2 1/3 innings in the win allowing just two hits while striking out three. On the season, McCain has posted a 0.61 ERA in 14 1/3 innings of work, he has struck out 21 batters and walked just one.

In Thursday's contest, McCain entered for Spokane in the fifth inning of a 5-4 game. After surrendering a single and the game-tying run, which was charged to the Indians' starter, McCain got a ground ball to end the frame and close the door on Boise's rally. He would cruise through the next two innings, while Spokane's offense exploded for seven runs.

In his time at Troy, the southpaw posted a 17-8 record with a 3.82 ERA. McCain struck out 273 batters, second most in Troy history, and became the first Trojan to record 100 strikeouts in back-to-back seasons. He was named 2013 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year and was a two-time All-Sun Belt selection.
